Digital or offset

The right process for your run

HP Indigo digital printing starts at a single copy, personalizes every piece and suits short runs and tight deadlines. Offset becomes more cost-effective on longer runs and handles Pantone inks and white ink on dark paper. The break-even point depends on the size, the product and the number of batches, and your representative will recommend the most economical option.

Paper, folding, scoring, saddle stitching, perfect binding, spiral or hardcover: we take your project all the way through finishing. Businesses, non-profits, agencies, authors and individuals: we print a single invitation or an annual report.

How it works

From quote to delivery

Every project goes through these steps. How long each one takes depends on the process, the quantity and the finishing.

  1. Process and paper

Tell us the use, size, quantity and date you need it. We recommend the process (HP Indigo or offset) and the paper.

  2. File check

Send a PDF with bleed, including from Canva. For a book, we give you the exact spine width before you prepare the cover.

  3. Proof

You approve a proof before the run. On request, a full printed proof lets you check paper, colours and folding.

  4. Printing and finishing

Printing, folding, binding and trimming. Embellishments such as foil and embossing are done by specialized partners and need a standard timeline.

  5. Pickup, delivery or mailing

Pick up your order at our reception desk, have it delivered, or let us handle mail processing and drop-off at Canada Post.

Before you request a quote

A few details are enough for an accurate first quote.

  1. How it will be used

Handed out, mailed, displayed or kept for years: the use guides the paper, weight and finish.

  2. Finished size and page count

Give the size once folded or bound, and the page count including the cover. Above about 52 pages, a document is usually perfect bound.

  3. Versions and batches

Several versions, names or languages, or staggered deliveries? Tell us, as it can change which process is most cost-effective.

  4. A reference sample

A printed piece whose paper or finish you like? Send a photo or bring it in. You can also see our paper samples by appointment.

FAQ

What people ask before printing digital or offset

Quantities, paper, binding and finishing. If your question isn't here, write to us.

It depends on the size, the type of product and the number of batches. For example, 1,000 copies of a 32-page booklet are best printed offset. If the same booklet is produced in 4 batches of 250, HP Indigo digital becomes the better option. Your representative will recommend the most cost-effective process.

There is no minimum. Our HP Indigo press prints from a single copy, and we print a single poster or sign in large format. The only exception is labels and stickers, which start at 250 units.

The page limit depends on the paper. As a general rule, a document of more than 52 pages will usually be perfect bound.

All types of folds: bi-fold, tri-fold, accordion (Z-fold), cross fold and gatefold. On card stock, we score before folding so the paper does not crack.
